Pine River .... Trout

Well it's been an exciting spring so far. Trout fishing on little known rivers and creeks. The Pine River is a smallriver system. I have only fished it from Wild Rose, Wisconsin down to Poysippi. As of late I have been catching some pretty nice fish. Some of the areas are brush covered, so the use of a fly rod are hard. In this area I use my trusted spinning rod and real.
As for baits, Using a 1/32 size jig head with a 2" tube works wonders. The color varies on the day. I bring a few different ones with me. Yellow, blue and red have been great colors. Flipping the jig out there using a short twiching motion is usally the trick. Lately I've been cating browns. They have been avg. 12 to 19 inches and for this small river system, thats pretty dam good. Early mornings and late afternoons have been the best.

On the larger Rivers such as the Fox and wolf Rivers though you can still pick up some Walleyes the White bass are hitting good. With the warming waters Catfish will be running. They can be some big ones.
So until we meet again,
Happy fishing and be safe.

God Bless.

Spring has sprung

Here it is, the first week of April... Snow is gone and the fever is on. Course it's been on since I was old enough to hold a fishing pole. Anyway. The ice is out and the rivers are flowing, WALLEYE WALLEYE WALLEYE. Ya they have been making thier way up river for a week or so. Small jigs with a minnows will do the trick, if your fishing out of a boat or if your alone on the shoreline. Without a boat your surely fishing from the banks of the mighty water.

First things first.... Stay SAFE Life jackets on and keep the children away from the waters edge. This time of year it's fast moving water. Currents a very strong.

If you are fishing from shore. A wolf river rig and floating jig head with a minnow will work very well.
A wolf river rig is a simple device, Ya I know what your thinkin, but there are those that have maybe never fished and want to give it a shot. So will start from the begining.

First Pick out a fishing rod and reel, For river fishing walleyes I like the spinning reel with 8 pound test line.
I always use Trilene line, But thats me. Once you have spooled up with the new line, Get yourself a three way swivel. Never mind that. You can do that later. To start go to your favorite sporting goods store or bait shop and pick up a wolf river rig. Then all you have to do is change the hook if you choose. The hook I would suggest you use is a floating jig. This will keep your bait just off the river bottom, making your bait look as if it is swimming up river. Giving your walleye an easy target . Color of the jig head, Well that will depend, the best advise on this would be to ask others fishing in the area you'll be dropin a line. Color does at times matter. Tip the jig with a minnow and have fun.

For those of you that have never tied  a hook to your line.... Please do not use over hand knots... A simple fishing knot will work great. Guide the end of the line through the eye of the hook as if you threading a needle. Making a loop. Give yourself enough line. Now twist the hook 7 times, taking the end of the line sliding back through the loop just above the eye of the hook. Holding the line and the hook pull slowly until the knot is tight.
Before doing this I like to wet my loop first. As you pull your knot tight friction will heat the line. Which will weaken it at that point. Now tip the hook with a minnow and your set. What I mean by tippin your minnow. Hook the minnow by first going through the bottom jaw up through the top. When you cast out, cast gentle or you'll loose your bait.

Oh ya one more thing. When you catch a walleye that is to small and has swallowed your hook, This goes for any fish you catch, That your not keeping. CUT the line as close to the hook as you can and return the fish to the water. Hooks are made to desolve over time. By doing so the fish will live to fight you another day.

Happy Fishing
God Bless

I Been Really Slow

I have been out of the picture for awhile.
Will be having surgery in a few weeks, So I'm hoping to get somethings done around here.
I'll be in the hospital for a week, Can't bare to think about it.
That will be the worse part. of all. Laying on my back, doing nothing but looking at the ceiling.

At least the burning is done. Every spring I burn my marsh off.
The geese are back starting a family in the pond. I have a pair that comes back every spring.
Let me tell you the gander is a fierce one. Nothing goes anywhere near the pond, cause if they do... That old gander will get ya.

The Sand hill crains are in the back yard, doing what they do best, Making Noise. At times we have up to 15 of them at a time. And being spring with love in the air.
Watching them do the dance. What a site. Jumping up knoding thier head and flashing thier wings.
Makes you glad to be alive.

I was hoping to get some fishing done. But I' guess things just won't work out that way.
At least for now.

After the poor hunting season last fall, We saw a few deer a couple weeks ago.
Usally by now we have seen a small herd about everyother day. As I have said before. That DNR really messed things up with thier head count last year.

Have a great day

God Bless

Whats Up with you

For 2010 ... I want to hear what everyone out there has to say about whatever it is they want to talk about... Lets hear from you...

Saturday, December 5, 2009

I wonder what they say about it now

I'm talking about our wonderful Wisconsin DNR. For a long time they have been talking about lower the deer herd in Wisconsin. For a few years now they have been fourceing hunters to shoot a doe before you could shoot a buck. How about that.
Deer hunt 2009 central Wisconsin. The heart of farm country. Well guess what. The numbers are out. 638,000 hunters hit the woods in the whole state. Of those less than 200,000 deer were harvested. On the last day, I had the opp. to get together with 14 other hunters. So the 15 of us took to the woods. We pushed out swamps, We pushed out Pine Tree plantations, and yes even corn fields. All of these areas in the past have held good numbers of deer.

On this day, with all the hunters working together pushing hard.
WE NEVER SAW ONE DEER.
The deer gun season last 9 days. In that time I saw one deer in that 9 days.
There was a time you could see 10 to 15 deer a day.
But thanks to the DNR of Wisconsin.
We are lucky to see 5 a season.

So my hat is off to the Wisconsin DNR.

They have never let us done when it comes to really screwing things up for the Wisconsin sportsmen and women. To top it all off,
Next year they are talking a 16 day gun season.
If I understood it right, ..... The first 4 days are doe only.

If that is the case 2011 season , well maybe there won't be one.
We need to stand as one and .............. SAY .. NO.. TO The ...... DNR

Have a great day

Wisconsin DNR (Department Of Natural Resources)

1971 I was 12 years old. It was then I started hunting in Wisconsin. No joke it was nothing to see 20 to 30 deer a day. Now days your lucky to see 10 all season. Insurance companies and are to blame. You might ask, What does one have with the other. MONEY. Now I'm not saying that some of these people in the DNR are taking money for the choices that are made. I'll leave that up to you.

There are insurance claims from damaged done to cars. That's a give me. Take into account that everyday that goes by , a new driver hits the road. Also consider that we are build homes and some cities in and around where Deer live. So ya there is going to be damage done not only to cars but also to property.

So with that in mind, the insurance companies are crying because of the claims they are paying out. So in turn they contact the DNR and pay or plead to get the deer herd down. So these brainstormers go to work. Never mind that hunting at least in Wisconsin brings millions of dollars to the state. Good for the economy right. Ya well. whats good isn't always the road they go.

A few years ago they came up with a plan that you had to earn a buck, by harvesting a doe before you were able to harvest a buck. Now it's the 2009 hunting season. Let me tell you the hunters and land owners stuck together and and at least for this year have a regular hunting season. Allowing the hunter to decide what he or she wants to harvest.

But on the horizon is yet another grand idea...HA. The DNR is proposing a 16 day hunt. Wait let me back up alittle first.
As it is right now. There is a youth hunt... This is where you can take your youngster out hunting in Oct. Then we have a T-zone which is also in Oct. Then in Nov. We have the regular 9 day season, Then In Dec. we have a Black powder and another T-zone hunt . Not to mention Archery season.

Now for next year and the 16 day season.... What can I say. Then we won't have any deer. The state will loose millions in revenue, Jobs will be lost. It will have a devastating effect across the board.

Hey DNR, whats next, you going to call in the military.
Get off your dead a## and look around.
That's all I have to say about this.
For Now.

God bless
Have a great day
